A Federal High court sitting in Abuja, this Thursday affirmed Oladipupo Adebutu as the authentic governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State for the 2023 elections.
Justice Inyang Ekwo dismissed the suit filled by Jimi Lawal challenging the PDP’s use of a delegates’ list, in the conduct of the governorship primary election held on 25th May, 2022 as against the list of delegates, whom he claimed were democratically elected for that purpose.
Justice Ekwo noted that there was no credible evidence before the court for Lawal to have instituted the suit, observing that the very delegates list which the plaintiff is challenging, is the same list approved by the PDP National headquarters and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The court frowned at what it saw as the spoiler role played by the plaintiff in the affairs of the party, having defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in March 2022 and was allowed to participate in the primaries in May 2022.
