The political violence, intolerance, victimisation and intimidation of perceived opposition elements in Rivers State in the Southern region of Nigeria worsened on early Thursday morning as suspected political thugs invaded the Port Harcourt home of a leading supporter of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the PDP Presidential candidate in coming 2023 elections, Senator Lee Maeba.
Sources told africafirstnews.com that the house located in the GRA, Phase 3 axis of Port Harcourt belongs to the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council in Rivers State, Maeba.
A neighbour said, "the criminals entered the former Senator's property after firing randomly at his entry from a nearby street".
It was gathered that three people at the compound, one a relative of Senator Maeba, reportedly fled for safety while the hoodlums damaged about five automobiles, including a jeep in the premises.
The Police in Rivers had not made any statement on the incident at the time of this report, but Senator Lee Maeba who had visited the scene, has pointed accusing fingers on the Rivers State government.
