Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Wins At Appeal Court.
*As Authentic PDP Kogi Central Candidate.
The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has affirmed Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Kogi Central Senatorial District in the 2023 general elections, and dismissed the appeal filed by Adamu Atta, a fellow contestant at the PDP primary election.
Justice Bature Gafai leading two other Justices, in dismissing the appeal filed by Atta against the judgement of the lower Court, held that the argument of John Usman (SAN), Counsel to Akpoti-Uduaghan which proved that the deponents of the affidavits in support of the Originating Summons were not delegates to the primary election, did irredeemable damage to the case of the appellant.
The Appeal Court Panel which relied on the Certified True Copies (CTC) of the delegate election results and the primary election results tendered by Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, upheld her election as the authentic candidate of the PDP and dismissed the appeal for lacking in merit.
It would be recalled that on the 2nd of September, 2022, a Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja and presided by Justice Peter Mallong had dismissed the suit filed by Adamu Atta which challenged the nomination of Akpoti-Uduaghan by the PDP as the Party's candidate for Kogi Central Senatorial zone in the coming 2023 election, as being grossly incompetent, incurably defective and robbed the Court of jurisdiction.
