INEC RELEASES TIMETABLE FOR 3 OFF-CIRCLE GUBER POLLS


Nigeria's electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will conduct three off circle governorship elections towards the end of 2023.

The affected States are; Imo, Kogi and Bayelsa.

The tenure of the incumbent governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma will end on 14th January, 2924; that of the Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello will terminate on 26th January, 2024; while that of the Bayelsa State governor, Senator Duoye Diri will end on 13th February, 2024.

A Press Release signed by the INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye says, the governorship elections in the three affected States will hold on Saturday, 11th November, 2023.

INEC observed that this announcement is in compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act which mandates the Commission to publish the Notice of Election not later than 360 days before the date fixed for the polls.

Okoye explained that the Timetable and Schedule of Activities show that the statutory Notice for the Election will be published at the three States on 14th November, 2022 while Party primary elections will hold from 27th March to 17th April, 2023.

The final list of candidates of political parties will be published on 9th June, 2023 just as political parties campaigns will commence on 14th June and end by midnight of 9th November, 2023.
