INSECURITY: US Raises Alarm On Abuja Attacks


The United States has raised a security alert, warning of a possible terrorists attack on Nigeria, especially at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja in what it calls "an elevated risk".

A statement by the US Embassy and Consulate in Nigeria says, government buildings, places of worships, schools, markets, shopping malls, hotels, bars, large gatherings, among others are possible targets.

It notes that the "US Embassy will offer reduced services until further notice".

The Security Alert which is posted on the website of the US Mission in Nigeria and dated October 23, 2022 advised citizens to avoid all non-essential travels and movements , as well as to avoid crowds.

In a related development, the Department of State Services (DSS) has acknowledged the existence of a security advisory issued by the US Embassy in Abuja.

A Press Release by the Spokesperson of the Nigerian secret police, Peter Afunanya notes that while advising residents to take necessary precautions, it enjoins citizens to remain alert and provide useful information to security agencies.
