The Supreme Court of Nigeria on Friday struck out an application by a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Ebonyi State, Senator Obinna Joseph Ogba, for a review of the Court's judgment entered on September 14, 2022.
Justice Amina Augie who presided over the session, struck out the motion after what was a dramatic withdrawal of the application by Ogba's lead Counsel, Paul Erokoro.
Erokoro's attempts to argue the motion which prayed the Supreme Court to review its own earlier judgement on the same matter, was countered by Chief Chris Uche (SAN), the lead lawyer to Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii.
Uche (SAN) had urged the Supreme Court Justices, to turn down the application for a review, describing it as "frivolous and unmeritorious".
When it was apparent that the Apex Court was not going to entertain the motion, Senator Ogba's Counsel, Paul Erokoro applied to withdraw the processes.
Following the withdrawal, Justice Augie consequently struck out the motion.
The Supreme Court of Nigeria had in its judgement of September 14, affirmed Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii popularly known as AnyiChuks as the authentic PDP governorship candidate for Ebonyi State, having emerged from a primary election conducted by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Party.
The Court held then, that the issue of nomination of candidates for elective offices is an internal affairs of political parties and that no court has jurisdiction to entertain it.
