SHERRIF IS DELTA PDP GUBER CANDIDATE - Supreme Court

Nigeria's apex Court on Friday upheld the decision of the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division that Sherrif Oborevwori is the rightful governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Delta State for the 2023 elections.

The Supreme Court gave the verdict in the appeal filed by an aggrieved governorship aspirant of the PDP in Delta State, Olorogun Edevbie challenging the candidature of Sherrif Oborevwori, who had emerged in the Party's primary election.

Justice Tijani Abubakar in reading the judgement, dismissed the appeal filed by Edevbie and held that the Court of Appeal was right in its decision that the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly was the proper candidate of the PDP for the coming governorship polls in the State.

Olorogun Edevbie had approached the Supreme Court to nullify the nomination of the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Sherrif Oborevwori, as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state, after the Court of Appeal nullified an earlier victory awarded to him by a lower Court.

On August 29, 2022 a three-man panel of the Court of Appeal Justices led by Justice Olabisi Ige had in a unanimous decision upturned the judgement of the Federal High Court, Abuja which earlier directed INEC to recognise Edevbie as the bonafide candidate of the PDP for the election.
