VOTERS REGISTER CLEAN-UP: INEC Removes 2.7million Names
Nigeria's electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has told the country that over 2.7 million names said to be double registrants have been weeded out from the Voters register after the conclusion of the last Continuous Voters Registration exercise.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu disclosed this in far away Washington DC, United States at the National Endowment for Democracy event.
Yakubu stated that about 50% of the new Permanent Voters cards (PVC) have been printed, but would be made available for pick up by November this year.
The Election Commission boss expressed concern over the rising levels of insecurity across the country at a time elections are drawing closer, saying that the body was having its "fingers crossed."
