PRESIDENT BUHARI SWEARS-IN NEW CJN.
A new substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) has been sworn-in into office by President Mohammadu, this Wednesday.
He is Justice Olukayode Ariwoola who had been in acting capacity following the resignation of Justice Ibrahim Mohammad Tanko on health grounds in June 2022.
With the swearing-in, Justice Ariwoola becomes the 18th substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
The event which took place at the Executive Council Chambers of the Presidential villa, Abuja preceded the commencement of the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting.
africafirstnews.com Correspondent reports that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and his Ondo State counterpart, Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) were among dignitaries, including other Justices of the Supreme Court, that witnessed the brief ceremony.
The new CJN, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola told journalists shortly after taking the oath of office that he'll focus on reforms at the apex court, while appealing to politicians to allow the judiciary to function properly as the heads to the 2023 general elections.
