Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu Square, Owerri Designated For Campaign Rallies.

The Government in Imo State, South Eastern region of Nigeria has designated the popular Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu Square in Owerri as the sole venue for all political campaign rallies in the capital city ahead of the 2023 elements.

Though the announcement was silent on designated campaign venues at the Local Government Areas, Wards and community levels.

The Imo State government directive is coming at a time of public outcries over policies by State Governors seen to be targeted at stifling opposition parties and candidates in their electioneering campaigns ahead of the 2023 general elections in the country.

Some State Governors have in past days have decreed the ban on the use of public and private school premises, markets, motor parks and other public spaces for political campaign rallies, a policy seen to be targeted at the opposition in such State.

But, addressing the congregation after a Church service at the Government House chapel, Owerri on Sunday, Governor Hope Uzodimma announced that the designated facility was open for use by all political parties and candidates.

Uzodimma while pledging to give all political parties a level playing ground for their campaign activities in the forthcoming polls, however reminded politicians and their parties that electioneering must be conducted within the ambits of the law.

He used the event of the church service to sound a note of warning to those who are involved in the recent burning down of INEC facilities in Orlu and Oru West Local Government Areas of the State, to desist from such acts or be prepared to face the consequences.
