2023 NIGERIAN ELECTIONS: West Africa Elders Forum Meets Atiku
A delegation of the West Africa Elders Forum (WAEF) has met with the Presidential candidate of Nigeria's leading opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in Abuja ahead of the country's coming elections in about two months time.
The sub regional leaders say, they have received reports about security concerns, attacks and other pre-election matters that if not addressed could undermine the credibility of the 2023 general elections in Africa's most populous nation with an estimated 200 million people.
The Former President of the Republic of Sierra Leone and leader of the elders delegation, Ernest Bai Koroma spoke to Journalists after the closed door meeting with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, which was equally attended by the PDP National Chairman, Senator Iyorcha Ayu.
The ex President explained that as part of its activities, the West Africa Elders Forum will engage with other political parties and candidates in the coming weeks as a build up to securing the commitment of key political actors towards a peaceful 2023 elections in the country.
The West Africa Elders Forum was inaugurated in 2021 with the aim to establish a mechanism that will prevent and resolve election related conflicts and promote democratic stability in the sub-region.
