Nigeria's Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba is to spend three months in prison for disobeying a valid court order, a Federal High Court Judge in Abuja has ordered.
Justice M. O. Olajuwon held that the Police boss should be committed to prison for a period of three months, or until he obeys an order it made since October 21, 2011.
The IGP's committal followed a suit that was filed by one Patrick Okoli, a Police officer who was compulsorily retired from the Nigerian Police Force.
In a ruling Tuesday, the Court noted that though the Police Service Commission (PSC) had recommended that Okoli be reinstated into the Service, a decision that was affirmed by the Court, but the Polce Management refused to comply with the order.
Justice Olajuwon also ordered the payment of N10million to Okoli as special and general damages for the unlawful, illegal and unconstitutional denial of his rights and privilege from 1993 till date.
