Heads of State and Governments of the Lake Chad Basin Commission have held the 16th Ordinary Summit at the State House Conference Hall in Abuja, the Nigerian capital city.
The meeting was attended by the six countries - Niger, Nigeria, Chase, Cameroon, Libya and the Central African Republic that make up the lake Chad Basin Commission.
Chairman of the Commission and Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari in his opening remarks called for greater cooperation among countries within the basin in addressing the issue of terrorism and other challenges within the region.
The Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) was initially established by the Fort-Lamy (N’Djamena) Convention of 22nd May, 1964 by the four countries bordering the Lake Chad: Cameroon, Niger, Nigeria and Chad.
Later, the Central African Republic joined the organization in 1996 and Libya was admitted in 2008.
Sudan, Egypt, and the Democratic Republic of Congo hold observer status.
