2023 Polls: Detained Umahi's Senate Seat Challenger, Linus Okorie Regains Freedom.


After spending 43 days incarceration, the detaine Labour Party Senatorial candidate and the opponent to Governor Dave Umahi for the Ebonyi South Senatorial district election, Linus Okorie, has finally regained his freedom.

Okorie who was remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Service facility in Abalaliki by a Magistrate Court over alleged murder and advance fee fraud charges was released on Tuesday.

africafirstnews.com gathered that the former two term member of the Federal House of Representatives was reportedly discharged by a State High Court in Abakaliki,  Ebonyi State capital, following a dramatic withdrawal of the suit by the State government.

So far, no reason was given by either the Court or the State government for the decision.

Linus Okorie was abducted in a gestapo style on 17th October, 2022 by the Ebonyi State government run Security outfit code named, Ebubeagu, tortured for days at the old Government House, Abakaliki before being arraigned and remanded.

Ruling on his bail application was still pending at the Federal High Court, Abakaliki Division before the State government made a U-turn to drop the charges against him.
