From 18th October, through to November 9th and 10th, 2022, for these 3-days, the global community would be treated to nine (9) personal stories on indigenous legal work experiences of Green Rights Lawyers and Legal Warriors from across the four (4) continents, aimed at mobilizing the power of stories to bring issues of environmental rights and justice to the front burner.
The first ever Green Rights and Warrior Lawyers Virtual Academy, will have Lawyers and indigenous legal knowledge holders share their stories on how they have used the powers of the law to fight for environmental justice, human rights to a healthy environment, and the rights to non-human beings and ecosystems.
These stories are expected to inspire global and national actions in countries like Nigeria, where the activities of State and non-State actors involved in oil explorations in the Niger Delta region have caused oil spillages, environmental pollutions, gas flaring and the destruction of the ecosystems, which have dislocated the societies, impoverished the people, rendered hundreds of thousands homeless, destroyed farmlands, polluted and contaminated sources of drinking water as well as aquatic lives, and brought diseases to the locals.
On the 10th of November, 2022, a date which coincides with the 27th years anniversary of the State murder of Nigeria's environmental rights crusader, late Ken Saro Wiwa, another courageous Nigerian environmental activist, a winner of the Goldman Environmental Prize, and the Executive Director, Environmental Rights Action/Friends of the Earth, Nigeria, Barrister Chima Williams will be on the point to share life changing stories of his legal battles that have helped shape green rights struggles in the oil rich West African nation.
A notice made available to africafirstnews.com indicates that participation in the virtual programme is free and open to everyone, everywhere by visiting; bit.ly/GRAWLacad22 to register.
