The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) has alerted that the Northern region of Nigeria should begin to expect the possible commencement of dry season also called “harmattan” within the next 24 hours.
NiMET advises air transport operators and passengers to brace up as they should expect more flights cancellations and delays arising from reduced visibilities.
The latest weather report followed what the Agency said is observed movements of dust plumes from the Niger and Chad regions, in relatively low visibility values.
A statement signed by the NiMET General Manager, Public Relations Unit, Muntari Ibrahim reveals that the dry season is in moderate horizontal visibility of 200m to 500m over Maiduguri, Yobe, Katsina, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi and Jigawa States, while other areas including the North Central regions may experience, sunny and hazy visibilities of between 5 to 7km.
NiMET notes that the forecasted weather conditions will persist for the next 3 days while there will be gradual increase of day-time temperatures, warning people with respiratory issues to apply necessary caution especially for out-door activities.
