Two Bishops of the Anglican Communion of Nigeria have died within the last 24 hours, a report by the highest authority of the Church in Nigeria has said.
Archbishop of Lagos Province, Anglican Communion and Bishop of Lagos Diocese, Most Reverend Humphrey Olumakaiye and his brother, Bishop of Ndokwa Diocese, Reverend David Obiosa, died back to back in what has thrown the christian religious community into deep mourning.
The death of Archbishop Olumakaiye, 53, was announced in a state co-signed by the Synod Secretary, Segun Ladeinde and Chancellor, Justice Adedayo Oyebanji.
The statement reads: “His Episcopal sojourn in the Diocese of Lagos and subsequently the Province was characterised by phenomenal, physical and spiritual developments, for which all of us shall remain very proud.”
Most Reverend Humphrey Olumakaiye was born on January 28, 1969 and was elected for translation into the Diocese of Lagos in February 2018, before being enthroned as the eighth Bishop of Lagos at the Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina, in 2018.
On September 25, 2021, he elevated to become the Archbishop of the Province of Lagos and was officially enthroned in 2021, at the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Gwarimpa, Abuja, Nigeria .
africafirstnews.com gathered that the church lost Bishop David Obiosa of the Ndokwa Dioceses in Delta State on Monday evening, within 24 hours of that of the Archbishop of Lagos.
A local ordinary in the church while mourning the death said: “My Lord Bishop is no more, Rest in perfect peace my Lord Bishop Rt Rev’d David F.A Obiosa. The Lord Bishop of Ndokwa Anglican Diocese".
The details of the death of the two top clergymen of the Anglican Communion in Nigeria is not yet known, while their burial arrangements have not been made public by the respective church authorities in Lagos and Ndokwa, as at the time of this report.
